FINNISH FOR BEGINNERS,
ADVANCED STUDIES IN FINNISH, SUMMER COURSES IN FINNISH

FINNISH 1
AND
FINNISH 2
STUDY PROGRAMS

At the beginning of autumn, a starting level test is held. Based on students skill level, students are divided into Finnish 1 and Finnish 2 groups.

Finnish language studies aim to develop vocabulary, listening comprehension, speaking, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

The goal of Finnish 1 is to reach A2.2 level.
The goal of Finnish 2 is to reach B1 level, and if possible, B2 level.

FOR WHOM?
• For you who are interested in the Finnish language and culture.
• For you who do not yet speak Finnish and want to live in Finland.
• For you who want to review the basics of an elementary Finnish course.
• For you who have studied basic or vocational education in your home country.
• For you who want to work in Finland or are interested in further studies in Finnish.

WHY?
You will improve your Finnish skills and increase your chances of entering working life by participating in a practical work training, which is part of the Finnish 2 study line.

WHAT?
Finnish 1 starts from the basics of the language and aims for language proficiency level A2.2.

Finnish 2 reviews previously learned basics and aims for proficiency level B1, possibly up to B2.

Studies cover all areas of language skills: speaking, writing, reading comprehension and listening comprehension. There are approximately 25 hours of guided instruction per week.

In the Finnish language study line, you will study Finnish language, oral communication, and civic knowledge. The goal is to support the integration of immigrants and strengthen study skills.

HOW?
The learning environment is multicultural. In addition to supporting integration, the goal of teaching is to support each student’s own cultural identity and promote tolerance and equality.

Different kind of festivities, theme days, and guest visitors help students become familiar with Finnish society and culture and provide variety in the teaching.
In the Finnish 2 study line studies also include a one-month work placement in a local company.
Speaking skills are also practiced with native Finnish speakers.
The education uses a wide range of online materials designed for second language (S2) learners.
