The literacy phase is part of the initial phase of adult basic education.
The teaching is based on the national curriculum guidelines for adult basic education.
The goal of the teaching is to support the development of language skills and the fluency of reading and writing skills, so that the student can progress in their studies once they have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills.
In adult basic education, students complete initial phase studies if needed, which consist of 38 courses. The initial phase usually lasts for one year.
During the initial phase, students acquire the study and information retrieval skills required in adult basic education, as well as the fundamental knowledge needed for the final phase of studies in adult basic education. Once the student has obtained sufficient knowledge and skills, they can progress to the final phase of their studies. The initial phase may also include the literacy phase.
The initial phase is implemented if there are enough applicants.
The final phase of adult basic education consists of at least 46 courses. The aim of the final phase is to achieve a basic education certificate (equivalent to the Finnish basic school graduation certificate).
The final phase usually lasts between 1.5 to 2 years.
Do you want to complete the Finnish basic education, obtain the basic education certificate, and gain good preparation for further studies?
Do you need to supplement your previous basic education qualification?
Do you want to improve your grades in certain subjects?
In adult basic education, several subjects are studied in a course format.
The teaching corresponds to the objectives of grades 7-9 of the Finnish basic education curriculum.
Adult basic education is intended for people who have surpassed the compulsory school age and who have not completed the basic education curriculum at all or who wish to supplement their qualifications or improve their grades.
The student must have sufficient Finnish language skills (A2.1 level) to study subjects in Finnish.
There is continuous admission to adult basic education. New groups begin their studies every August and January.
The academic year is divided into six periods, and if necessary, students can start their studies at the beginning of any period.
Teaching is conducted in Finnish, considering the needs of different students.
Basic education for immigrants is free of charge for the student.
